6/20/2023 0 Comments Planet zoo vs planet coasterLIghting is another aspect that needs some serious work in PC2.Ĭreating paths has been a notorious aspect of Planet Coaster. Also, area lights often leave light spots on reflective objects, even when they are put behind the object in order to simply provide area light. Spotlights don’t interact with objects and can be seen piercing through buildings. Lighting from objects can also be very weird at times. It’s so weird and definitely something that needs to be tended to in PC2. Even in the daytime, light still can be seen underground. This is a major hindrance for players who want to create dark rides, as the only way to create a proper dark ride without natural lighting is to build it underground and switch to nighttime. ![]() Even at nighttime, since the moon is always out, some light still can be seen in unlit interiors. When you go inside of an unlit building in the daytime, the inside should be pitch black dark, but in PC, indoor areas still show light. ![]() The lighting in Planet Coaster is extremely weird. Kinda weird that PC didn’t have this feature, especially for the tropical environment preset. RCT3 had this feature where water would engulf everything outside your island. Also, let us make oceans instead of large lakes so that our islands will look more remote. Like in RCT3, if we make a dropoff from a pool of water, it should automatically create a waterfall. Players should not have to rely on the water special effects to get these results. Although, the developers should implement some waves and rapids physics to provide river rapids experiences and also have better aesthetics for coastal environments. ![]() This was improved in Planet Zoo as water is now an actual physical thing, so this should end up in Planet Coaster 2. Planet Coaster’s water effects are quite notorious since water in the game is actually a silhouette layer instead of, well, water. If Frontier repeats the same mistake, that’s going to be a major deficit for the overall reception of the game. This is a must have for Planet Coaster 2. These kinds of things really hinder players who want to go big in their builds, especially those with less capable PCs. The more guests walking around in your park, the more the game has a hard time. When facing any object that generates particle effects, the frames take a hit. The biggest frame-killers are particle effects and park guests. You’ll actually have to place bedding for animals under cover so it doesn’t get wet, and give them proper shelter from the elements, otherwise they’ll be unhappy. This game is quite notorious for having rather underwhelming optimization that even the most capable of PCs have a hard time running the game when parks are filled to the brim with objects. Planet Zoo adds hot and cold temperatures, and even snow, which settles on the ground. Jurassic World had a few typhoons and rainstorms, but other than creating possible disasters they didn’t really affect the dinosaurs. They’re also affected by the weather, which is a big addition. Oh, and we can confirm - they do move in herds. It was fun just to watch them wander around, go for a swim, play a little, take a dump on their food tray - all seemingly naturally. The Jurassic World dinosaurs were the highlight of that game, and these guys seem even better. Honestly, the animals are just fantastic. You could change the terrain in Planet Coaster and to a slight degree in Evolution, but now having the right shape and even soil type is really important. The animals also have entertainment needs (seeing an elephant play with a giant football is the cutest thing) and specific environment needs - like sand or types of grass. Yes, in Planet Zoo you have to keep spiders happy. There will be over 50 animals for players to look after in the final game, from big guys like Elephants, Giraffes, and Lions to smaller fare like Peacocks, Lemurs, and… ick… Spiders. The goal is to build a functioning park that keeps both the patrons and the animals happy, with the staff pretty content too. While the version we saw was a very early build (described as pre-alpha, although it’s months away from release at this point) the basics are what you’d expect from a 2019 Zoo Tycoon-style game. ![]() We really enjoyed Jurassic World Evolution, but Planet Zoo looks like it could have the depth many players felt was missing in Frontier’s licensed game. Players will have the depth and control over all your park’s functions that fans came to love in Coaster, but with the added complication of having to look after and satisfy the needs of a bunch of animals. Planet Zoo seems to play very much like a cross between Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution.
